Aerobatics Display - Friday only
Overhead, with Steve Carver, and a guest appearance from Gary Ferriman

Gary Ferriman, who for so many years has thrilled us with his aerobatics and duo work with Steve, is easing back on the aerobatics now, but is still sufficiently crazy and has bought a wartime Bckers B 133 Jungmeister, and aims to come and show it to us at Chatsworth. Here it is

Steve Carver is one of England's most experienced aerobatics pilots, and his flying has been thrilling us at Chatsworth for some years now. He has graciously given way to the Red Arrows on Saturday and Sunday, but will be with us again for Friday, so long as the weather permits. His website is here.
He will be performing a succession of solo aerobatic manoeuvres over about fifteen minutes, and we hope that he won't put you off your next holiday flight!
He flies a German-built Extra 230. Stressed to +/- 10g and with a roll rate of over 360/sec, the Extras are very strong, very powerful, light-weight composite aircraft and have a top speed of around 250 mph. Steve is 50, Midlands-based and has logged over 10,000 hours and is a Type Rating Examiner on the Embraer 145 regional jet.
The picture above is a relatively staid image which gives no clue as to what this aircraft can do. The picture below was taken by Mike Marshall from the ground and shows Steve much more as we are used to seeing him.

And for those of you who are curious, this is what the inside of this aircraft looks like:

And one more for those of you who are still with us, and need to show off your esoteric knowledge somewhere, we give you this image. It is a copy of Steve's solo sequence last year written in what is called "Aresti" style, named after a Spanish Aviator, Colonel Jose Aresti, who developed the notation in the 1940s. Competition pilots often stick a small version of their display in their cockpits.
