Gundog Pick-up and Gundog Scurry ... bring your dog ...
Situated next to each other beside the river, south of the cricket pitch. Supported by Quest Dog Training Equipment, Alpha Feeds, Paws for Thought and Sneyd Wonderdog
Both events will have three classes: Open, Novice and Junior - (no Novice in the Scurry on the Friday). Junior is handler under the age of 16, and for the Novice, the dog must not have won any award in a field trial, working test, gundog pick-up, scurry, dog-and-gun or any have-a-go type of event. Start: 9.30am. Last entries: 4.30pm
Gundog Pick-up
Organised by Eric and Andrea Phelan, assisted by Brian Smith.
Open to any recognised breed of gundog, the competition represents the “pick-up” after a shooting drive. In the Open there will be five dummies concealed in ground cover; and the time allowed is three minutes. The dog retrieving the largest number of dummies in the quickest time will be the winner. The clock will be stopped between each retrieve when the dummy is put into the container provided. The dog must not be sent before the dummy is in the container. The handler must not cross the line and only dummies delivered to the handler will be counted. The steward’s decision is final.
Friday: One short retrieve over an obstacle - 1 entry for all classes
Saturday and Sunday. Open and Novice: five blind retrieves - 2 entry. Junior: three blind retrieves - 1 entry
Open and Novice (2 entry) and Junior (1 entry)
There will be a prize on Friday for the fastest combined time in the Scurry and Pick-up (Open and Junior only).
Gundog Scurry
Organised by Eric and Andre Phelan, assisted by Keith Spencer.
This event is quite a test for both dog and handler and can also be very entertaining to watch. Although the scurry is ideally for gundogs, if you have an obedient dog of any breed that you can persuade to pick up two canvas dummies, one from the water, in a reasonable time, then come and have a go. If you are training a gundog, this will not interfere with training, as the two retrieves are run separately so there is time to settle your dog before the second retrieve.
Friday: Open and Junior only: one long retrieve - 1 entry
Saturday and Sunday: Two retrieves, one dry, one wet. 2 entry - Open and Novice. 1 for Juniors.
