Lurchers.

The NL&RC has been going for 30 years and is the oldest and largest Lurcher Club in the world. It is the only national membership Lurcher Club in the UK. A lurcher is a cross-breed of dog, usually a sight-hound, such as a whippet or greyhound, with a working dog such as a terrier or collie, having been purposely cross-bred for the pursuit and catching of edible game. The aim of the Club is to promote the interest and welfare of the the Lurcher The Club runs shows, racing events and working demonstrations, and membership is open to anyone who has an interest in Lurchers.

Programme of Events

The entry marquee will open each morning at 8.30 am. All events and competitions are open to anyone with a Lurcher. All competitions are for Lurchers only unless specified as 'open to any dog'. Exact timings will vary according to the number of entries, and anyone planning to compete is advised to enter their dog at the earliest available opportunity. Competitors are advised to listen to the announcements throughout the competitions. All dogs are to be muzzled when competing in the Coursing/Racing competitions.

Friday
  • 8.30am  Entries accepted for all Racing/Field Competitions
  • 8.40am  Simulated Coursing - £2 per dog
  • 10.15am  Straight Racing Under 23" then 23" and Over. - £2 per dog
  • 11.15am  Hurdle Racing - £2 per dog.
  • 11.45am  Long Jump - £2 per dog
  • 12.00noon  Field events which will run for as long as there are competitors 'Have-a-go' Coursing - (open to any dog) £1 per dog
    Field Agility - (open to any dog). £1.50 per dog
    Obedience - Novice and Open Classes. £2.50 per dog
  • 4.30pm  'Superdog' presentation

 

Saturday
  • 8.30am  Entries accepted for all Racing/Field Competitions
  • 8.40am  Simulated Coursing - £2 per dog
  • 10.15am  Straight Racing Under 23" then 23" and Over. - £2 per dog
  • 11.00am  Entries accepted for the Show
  • 11.15am  Hurdle Racing - £2 per dog.
  • 11.45am  Long Jump - £2 per dog
  • 12.00noon  Field events which will run for as long as there are competitors 'Have-a-go' Coursing -(open to any dog) £1 per dog Field Agility - (open to any dog) - £1.50 per dog

  • 1.00pm  Lurcher Show (3 free Junior classes and 22 other classes £1.00.
  • 1.30pm  National NL&RC; Junior Handler Championship

 

Sunday

  • 10.00am  Entries accepted for the Show
  • 10.15am  Straight Racing Under 23" then 23" and Over. - £2 per dog

    'Have-a-go' Coursing - (open to any dog) £1 per dog

Experienced members of crew will be on hand all weekend to give advice and guidance on all aspects of lurcher ownership.
