Friday 2nd, Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th September
Gundog Pick-up and Gundog Scurry ... bring your dog ...
Situated next to each other beside the river, south of the cricket pitch. Supported by Quest Dog Training Equipment, Alpha Feeds, Paws for Thought and Sneyd Wonderdog
Gundog Pick-up
Organised by Eric and Andrea Phelan
Open to any recognised breed of gundog, the competition represents the “pick-up” after a drive. In this case there will be five dummies concealed in ground cover; the time allowed is three minutes. The dog retrieving the largest number of dummies in the quickest time will be the winner. The clock will be stopped between each retrieve when the dummy is put into the container provided. The dog must not be sent before the dummy is in the container. The handler must not cross the line and only dummies delivered to the handler will be counted. The steward’s decision is final.
There are two classes on Friday - Open and Novice, with all three classes on Saturday and Sunday: Open, Novice, and Junior. For the Novice, the dog must not have won any award in a field trial, working test, gundog pick-up, scurry, dog and gun or any have-a-go type of event.
Open and Novice (£2 entry) and Junior (£1 entry)
Start: 9.30 am. Last entries: 4.30 pm
Gundog Pick-up
Organised by Lionel and Janet Bloodworth
This is one of the events that needs public and canine participation and is also very entertaining to watch. Entries will be taken from 9.00 am and we will take as many competitors as possible during the day finishing around 5 pm. The entry fee is £3 per run and £2 for Juniors (under 16)
Although the scurry is ideally for gundogs, if you have an obedient dog of any breed that you can persuade to pick up two canvas dummies, one from the water, in a reasonable time, then come and have a go. If you are training a gundog, this will not interfere with training, as the two retrieves are run separately so there is time to settle your dog before the second retrieve.
The event is open to all, but the prizes in the Novice class will only be awarded to handlers who have never run a dog in a field trial or won a working test. We will also have a junior section up to 16 years of age; same competition but with a little help from the referee, with its own awards. On Saturday and Sunday there will also be the competition for the fastest time over the two days and the winner will take the trophy for a year.
