“Search for a Star” ... 2011 sees the Terrier Roadshow Racing Team celebrating its 25th birthday since forming in 1985, with their first public performance at Wellington Country Fair at Stratfield Saye - a sister country fair to Chatsworth and Holkham.
It was, says Adrian, a bold decision by the then country fair organiser, Andrew Cuthbert, as terrier racing had never before been considered a grand ring display. Given that the whole performance descends into anarchy and ill-discipline, the jury is still out on the question.
In 1986 the Terrier Roadshow racing team became part of the grand ring programme at Chatsworth and remained on the bill until 2005 when the team made the decision to retire, as all of the canine stars including the presenter “Angus Mecoatup” were getting a bit “long in the tooth” and it was agreed that retirement beckoned.
But like Frank Sinatra they cannot resist a come-back, and so, after twenty five years, the gang is back in town with the “Chatsworth Search for a Star”. This is an invitation from old croaky-voice Zimmer to find a new “star” of the terrier racing world. However it may not be a terrier, as the show is open to anything from a Chihuahua to a Great Dane, so this is your chance for you and your dog to be part of the show, join in the fun and -who knows? - it could be you and your pet that becomes the “Star of the Show“.
